A group of Fourth graders at Jasper Elementary School are attempting to make a change to the State of Indiana by giving it an official fruit.
The state currently does not have one.
On Friday, five students created and presented a project to State Representative Shane Lindauer and State Senator Daryl Schmitt to name the persimmon as the official state fruit.
The top reasons were… Persimmons are native to Indiana, and the fruit and its wood can boost the state’s economy.
The students will travel to the Indiana Statehouse on February 10th to present their argument orally.
