MILAN/FLORENCE (Reuters) – Two people are in life-threatening condition and five others have been hospitalised after an explosion at a storage facility owned by Italian energy group Eni near Florence on Monday, the president of the Tuscany region said.
A spokesperson for Eni said a fire had broken out at the company’s fuel storage site and that firefighters were working to extinguish the flames.
The incident took place in Calenzano, north of Florence, and a column of smoke is visible from neighbouring villages, the president of the Tuscan region Eugenio Giani said on a Telegram.
“All hospitals and emergency services in the area have been alerted,” he added.
