The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam which uses the Sheriff’s Office phone number.
Authorities say a scammer called a resident claiming to be a member of the sheriff’s department and told them they needed to pay a fine for missed jury duty otherwise a warrant would be issued for their arrest.
The sheriff’s department says no law enforcement agency will contact people over the phone about paying fines for missed jury duty.
Authorities say anyone who receives a call like that should hang up and report the incident to local police.
