The new Evansville Water and Sewer Utility water treatment is on a temporary pause while engineers explore adding to surface water taken from the Ohio River with ground water from wells.
Utility leaders believe making that addition could save up to $50 million on a new plant now.
It could also lower the cost of treating so-called “forever chemicals” and reduce the need for a significant water rate increase in the near future.
