The family of Octavia Aquino hopes to change Indiana law.
Octavia’s grandmother, Linda Alvarez has started a petition.
The goal is to legally require all adults who suspect child abuse to report it to the police.
Alvarez believes the roommates of Octavia’s mother should have charges brought against them.
They saw signs of abuse and never reported it.
Teachers, doctors, and social workers are required by law to report any suspected child abuse or neglect.
16-year-old Christian Gonzalez has been charged with the girl’s murder.
The autopsy report for Ocativa revealed she died of blunt force trauma.
