An amphibian that mysteriously and suddenly vanished back in the 80s has been reintroduced at Angel Mounds.
In March, eight crawfish frog egg masses were collected from a large population in Green County and relocated to ponds at Angel Mounds.
They were protected by being placed inside cages.
Within weeks thousands of tadpoles filled the ponds.
This month dozens of young spotted frogs began hopping.
Crawfish frogs are prairie-dwelling creatures that rely on quality grassland.
Their croak can be heard more than a mile away.
