Time is running out while negotiations between the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Ferry Authority continue.
If an agreement isn’t reached by Sunday there will likely be a disruption to the Cave-In-Rock ferry service.
The current proposed contract was rejected after asking for an increase of 13 percent in yearly funding.
Since 2018, reimbursements to the Cave-In-Rock Ferry have more than doubled.
If a disruption occurs travelers would have to use a route that is 35 minutes longer than a trip on the ferry.
