A child called 911 to report the shooting of his mother.
Police responded to the 1600 block of South Morton Avenue around 5:30 last evening.
Arriving officers found a woman shot in the torso.
Crews tried life-saving procedures but the woman died at the hospital.
Officers found the child who called along with his father, Jason Horne, at a house across the street.
Detectives say Horne does not remember the shooting.
