Evansville Police have charged two men with fraud after they tried to get homeless people to cash fake checks for them.
Police discovered that several suspects were coming into town and targeting the homeless community.
The suspects would offer new clothes, phones, or money to homeless people in exchange for cashing fraudulent checks.
On Wednesday, Daniel Ravellette was arrested at a bank for cashing a fake check.
Ravellette told police that he was homeless and two suspects in a white vehicle had recruited him to cash the check.
Detectives were able to identify those suspects but had to wait for them to return to Evansville.
On Friday, when they did return, Kalil Smith and James Thacker were located and arrested.
Officers and detectives reached out to local shelters and let the staff and residents know about these crimes, what to watch out for, and how to report suspicious behavior.
