Officials with the American Red Cross have declared an emergency concerning a critical shortage of blood.
They report the lowest blood donation numbers in 20 years.
Evansville chapter director Beth Sweeney says local blood drives and donation centers took in 7,000 fewer units than normal over the Holidays.
The shortage means medical procedures could be delayed putting those in need of transfusions at risk.
Donations locally supply the blood needs of all Tri-state hospitals.
