Overcrowded Animal Shelter Feeling The Stress

The Vanderburgh Humane Society is dealing with an overcrowding problem.

Shelter leaders say they try to keep the dog and cat population between 300 and 400.

Right now they have more than 650.

That means extra stress on staff members and less attention for each animal.

Officials say during the pandemic, the shelter had more adoptions and fewer surrenders.

Now it’s the opposite.
