The new mayor and city council in Sturgis took some first steps to pull the Kentucky city out of its financial crisis.
They began with the appointment of another new council member, Charles Garnett.
The new council is making some tough decisions.
The top priority is adopting the highest property tax rate allowed by Kentucky law which is 4%.
Mayor Billy Adams also said that several vehicles, pieces of equipment, and water treatment chemicals would be sold or scrapped.
That includes a $50,000 police pursuit vehicle.
