The Evansville City Council began work on a salary ordinance at Monday’s meeting.
The measure includes a $30,000 raise for the mayor.
The raise would not affect outgoing mayor Lloyd Winnecke but would benefit his successor.
If passed, the new mayor would earn $135,000 per year.
Other provisions of the bill raise the salary of the city clerk to $94,500 and city council members will make $21,588.
The Council has until November 1 to approve the city budget with the salary changes.
