The Evansville Fire Department received 12 new sets of bulletproof vests and helmets providing extra protection, if needed.
Thursday, around 220 firefighters were allowed to familiarize themselves with the new equipment that will be used in high-threat incidents.
In addition to providing ballistic protection, the vests have integrated pouches stocked with medical supplies.
Firefighters were also given new trauma supplies that can be used for bleeding control and gunshot wounds while responding to violent situations.
