Evansville Fire crews responded to 1427 Jeanette Avenue around 3:00 yesterday after a duplex caught fire.
Occupants noticed smoke in one of the bedrooms and alerted their neighbors.
First arriving crews reported smoke and flames from an exterior wall and also coming from the eves and attic area.
The fire was out in about 30 minutes.
The excessive heat took a toll on firefighters, so extra rehab and precautions were put in place.
The family kitten is doing fine after being given some oxygen and water.
The Red Cross was requested for 10 displaced residents.
