The mysterious camper that appeared last year on a dredging sandbar mostly known as “The Pump-Out” prompts a warning.
The U-S Army Corps of Engineers says that future incidents of this type may lead to the loss of future pump-out islands in the Evansville area.
The corps has to guarantee 9 feet of water depth in the shipping lane, and from time to time the lane at Horseshoe Bend has to be dredged.
Channel maintenance is underway now and likely will include the creation of a pump-out off the Evansville shore.
