Evansville police responded to a local hospital about 6:30 Wednesday night.
A 3-year-old child had been shot in the head.
The injury is non-life-threatening.
The child’s mother, Porsha Walker said she found the gun in a box in her yard and put it on her dresser before attending to her other children.
The three year old found the gun and it went off in the child’s hand, and family took the child to the hospital.
Walker allowed officers to search her home for the gun.
They found meth and pot in bags in the child’s room and more drugs in a toy.
The gun, which was reported stolen in March, was found in the kitchen.
Walker was arrested on several charges.
