Opioid overdoses killed 77 people in Vanderburgh County last year.
To combat that trend, the Evansville City Council voted without dissent to provide more than $640 thousand.
The money comes from an allocation of funds from a huge lawsuit settled in 2021 between several pharmaceutical companies and thousands of municipalities.
Over the next several years, Evansville will receive almost three and a half million dollars from that settlement.
The City Council’s appropriation goes to Youth First and Forefront Therapy.
