Federal meal waivers provided for K-12 students during the pandemic ended last June.
That’s all going to change in Illinois after House Bill 2471 passed both the Springfield House and Senate this week.
Under the bill, school districts will provide the free meals and then apply for reimbursement from the state.
Funds will then be dispersed fairly to each district.
All the bill needs now is the Governor’s signature.
