The Indiana Geographic Information Council conference was in Evansville on Thursday.
Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners President Cheryl Musgrave was the keynote speaker.
She called for local officials to leverage the advances in the Global Information System data in developing solutions to Evansville’s crime and gun violence problems.
Musgrave focused on how the power of GIS data mapping can illustrate the murder locations within the city over the past 10 years.
She believes this is vital in helping policy makers see the true picture and develop real solutions to address the rise in violent crime.
