A welfare check turned into a large police presence Tuesday afternoon in the 1600 block of Blackford Avenue.
The bomb squad was called after the man inside the home claimed to have one.
Officials say the suspect was having a mental breakdown, and it appeared he was trying to force a confrontation with police.
The man surrendered after he was shot with bean bags.
He was transported to the hospital to be evaluated.
No one was seriously hurt.
Police confirmed there was not a bomb on scene.
