Overcrowding at the Vanderburgh County Jail has been a problem for a long time.
It costs $150,000 a month to house inmates at nearby county facilities.
This is one of the issues Sheriff Noah Robinson is looking to change.
Robinson made revisions to former Sheriff Dave Wedding’s expansion plans after talking to correctional officers.
He presented it to the City Council.
The revised plan would be 158 beds spread over two floors and adding space for a mental health unit.
Approval was given for a $12 million loan to be paid back over the next 25 years.
