Evansville Water and Sewer crews had to stop with storm sewer construction after bones were found.
The human remains were found on Vine Street near the old Vanderburgh County Courthouse.
The coroner says this is an archeological discovery.
Crews will continue to do replacement work, but will stay 100 feet away from where the bones were found.
Records show the area around Fourth and Vine Streets is registered as a cemetery.
This is the earliest documented cemetery in Evansville dating back to 1816.
It’s likely more people are buried there.
