Many Warrick County residents that went to their basements during Friday’s storms complained of breathing issues.
The neighborhood was built on top of a former mining operation, so when it rains the acid in the rain reacts with limestone causing high CO2 levels.
The gas will flow toward a basement because of its relative low pressure.
Last evening the neighborhood met at Zoar United Church of Christ to discuss what to do to keep people safe.
Purchasing an air monitor to read safe levels of oxygen and CO2 was recommended.
One person died during Friday’s storm, possibly from high CO2.
The coroner has yet to make that determination.
