Three years in prison was the sentenced given to Danny Joe Steward for hitting a man in the head with a hatchet last year.
He will get 256 days credit for timed served.
Steward reached a plea deal, so all charges were dropped except for battery by means of a deadly weapon.
The incident happened last June in the 700 block of Southeast Eighth Street.
