House Bill 1306, if passed would raise the penalty for killing a K9 Officer.
The reason for the bill stems back to fatal shooting of a Fishers Police K9 in 2019.
The bill would raise the crime to a level five felony, punishable by one to six years in prison.
Vanderburgh County currently has 14 K9 officers in active duty.
There has not been a K9 killed in the line of duty since 1998.
Bill 1306 passed the House and is headed to the Senate.
