The National Parks Service designates Evansville as a World War II Heritage City.
One of 18 communities nationwide and the only one in Indiana.
The parks service says city leaders across all sectors came together before the U-S entered the war to boost defense production in the city.
Workers in Evansville produced ships, aircraft, ammunition and other war materiel throughout the war.
The American World War II Heritage Cities program honors the contributions of local towns, cities, counties and their citizens who contributed to the war effort.
