Mesker Park Zoo has brought all of their birds, including the penguins, back inside after avian flu was confirmed in Southern Illinois.
They have done this for cautionary reasons.
There are currently no cases of the flu at the zoo.
Director Eric Beck says it’s the fall season and the migration patterns of wild birds have brought the avian flu back into our area.
Recently a pelican in Southern Illinois tested positive.
The birds should be back outdoors in about 3 to 4 weeks.
