Farmers are harvesting their grain crops, but getting them to market is another matter.
64% of all grain in the United States is transported by river barge along the Mississippi river which, right now, is at a 100 year low level.
That means barges can’t be filled to capacity because they’ll drag the river bottom.
The Ohio River is also at low levels.
Less grain transported means lower prices for area farmers.
