Evansville Police were called to the 1300 block of East Illinois Street on Monday afternoon in response to a woman shot when trying to pick up her child.
The battered victim was found with a gunshot wound to her lower extremities and taken to the hospital.
Police say they had to surround the home and negotiate with the victim’s ex-boyfriend 47 year old Steven Kinslow.
There was a brief standoff before the suspect came out of the home with the toddler.
The serious violent felon, as known to police, was arrested and is facing a list of charges.
