A six year old child was found alone, barefoot and dirty at the Grocery Outlet on North Fulton Avenue Tuesday night.
The child was running around the store when officers arrived.
Police say they found the mother, 43 year old Jamie Schwartz, at home and intoxicated.
She told officers she had been drinking and fell asleep with her child.
She said, when she woke up the bedroom window was open, and the child was gone.
Schwartz was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on a neglect charge.
She has since been released.
