Evansville firefighters responded to the 400 block of East Michigan after passers-by reported seeing smoke and hearing screaming.
Firefighters made initial entry and experienced a lot of heat, according to District Chief Mike Larson.
He says firefighters were made aware of a young person still in the house.
That person was located on the second floor and passed to rescuers through a window.
The young person was handed off to ambulance which left the scene immediately.
