Evansville firefighters were sent to the 1400 block of Culver Drive about 5:30 Sunday evening.
A neighbor saw smoke coming from an upstairs window and sent inside to check on occupants.
But the neighbor found the door too hot to handle and went back outside to see flames above a window.
Firefighters found and extinguished an attic fire in about 15 minutes.
The home was divided into four apartments, but no one as home at the time.
A cat died in the fire, which was determined to be accidental.
