Catalytic converter theft is going to become a much less lucrative crime in Indiana when a new law goes into effect this summer.
The new law says only salvagers licensed by the state can buy or sell converters, and they can pay just $25 per transaction per day.
Secretary of State Holi Sullivan, whose office would issue the salvage licenses, says the low purchase fee should help deter the rash of converter thefts that have plagued Indiana.
The law takes effect July 1.
