The University of Southern Indiana is fast-tracking its proposed move from Division II to Division I athletic competition with the NCAA.
The university’s board voted this week to apply for Division I reclassification.
Wednesday morning, USI formally accepted an invitation to join the Ohio Valley Conference as its Division I partner.
The move allows the school to move ahead with reclassification prior to the NCAAA’s June 1 deadline.
USI would begin competing in the OVC at the start of the 2022-23 academic year but would not be eligible for NCAA championships through the four-year transition period.
