The lock chamber at Newburgh Lock and Dam are closed to traffic due to a navigational accident.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the accident happened about one o’clock this morning..
No one’s hurt and everybody concerned is accounted for.
Eleven barges apparently broke loose from a tow vessel named the Ronald E. Wagenblast, owned by the Marquette Towing Company.
Eight barges are reported across the dam and three others were recovered down-river by another boat.
Engineers are working to assess the condition of the barges and are working with the towing industry and the Coast Guard.
The Lock and Dam will remain closed until further notice.
