Law enforcement lost one of their own on Wednesday.
Illinois State Police say, Wayne County Illinois Officer Sean Riley was called to assist a motorist on Interstate 64.
A short time later, another responding officer found Deputy Riley deceased at the scene.
His squad car was missing and later found abandoned.
Authorities say, the suspect 40 year old Ray Tate of Hopkinsville carjacked a semi and held the driver against his will.
He had the driver stop at a gas station in St. Peter’s, Missouri.
Officials say Tate then drove back into Illinois after kidnapping a victim after stealing a car.
He then committed a home invasion, and took the homeowner and the kidnapped victim, to a house in rural Clinton County.
That is where Ray Tate was arrested and booked into the Clinton County Jail.
He is charged with First Degree murder.
