Civic leaders say drug overdose cases are reaching crisis proportions in the local community.
That’s especially true after more than 5-thousand fentanyl-laced pills were found in a home where a three-year-old had taken one and died.
Vanderburgh County prosecutor Nicholas Hermann called it the biggest crisis we currently face in Vanderburgh County.
Special agent Michael Gannon of the drug enforcement administration says fentanyl is 50 times more potent that heroin and 100 times more potent that morphine.
He says the drug infesting the community goes from China to Mexico then makes its way into the U.S.
The Vanderburgh County coroner’s office sways 76 people have already lost their lives to drug overdoses this year and 30 of those were fentanyl related.
