A warehouse fire Wednesday morning demonstrated the importance of firefighting sprinklers.
A fire started in a portion of the old Whirlpool building, a space that was filled with lithium batteries.
Evansville fire crews say the sprinklers put the fire out before it could take hold.
Division Chief Mike Larson told reporters later that had the sprinkler system not worked — or not been there — the result would have been catastrophic.
The fire has been ruled accidental.
