WIKY’s Office Manager Lisa Pillow and Tyler Foxx, our new friend from down the hall at Hot 96, volunteered their taste buds and lead a team of their own. Lisa’s a native West Sider. Tyler? Just got here from Las Vegas. No better introduction to Evansville than Fall Festival! (He was very impressed).
Remember, this year’s Festival is a little different. Understandably, there are several booths that opted out this year. This is a list of the booths present on Franklin this week and the goodies inside. Enjoy and thanks for supporting these great organizations!
Booth 35: Howell United Methodist Pronto Pup…delicious, moist and flaky batter, fried to crispy, hot perfection!
Booth 36: Twin Towers, new item Pulled Pork Nachos. The pork is delicious -moist and seasoned just right!
Booth 37: Mt. Pleasant Church, deep fried oatmeal pie. Layers of pastry and filling. You might want to split one, it’s sugary deep fried goodness.
Booth 38: West Side Kiwanis, new item, Franklin St. Quesadilla topped with bourbon sauce. Tyler says it’s like tasting heaven!
Booth 39: River Bend, Shrimp and Grits, ALWAYS delicious, always Lisa’s favorite! Shrimp, andouille sausage, grits and gravy.
Booth 42: Armstrong Rec Center, new item, and a vote from us for the best, freeze dried Skittles! Crunchy and sweet, and a nice little surprise after so much savory food.
Booth 43: Corpus Christi, sausage burger. They only do one thing, and they do it well! Perfectly cooked, not greasy, the right ratio of bun to burger. Lisa loves that the onions are diced. It’s the little things!
Booth 44: St. Paul UCC Boy Scouts, new item, Scoutmaster Chili. Another vote for best, delicious, sweet and yummy. We could have eaten a gallon. Different from spicy, heavily seasoned chilis. They should bottle this stuff!
Booth 47: Evansville Racing Pigeon Club, chili cheese tamale. If you like spicy, this one’s for you!
Booth 48: Salem Huesler UCC, Fudge Brownie Sundae. Our vote for best dessert. A light, delicious brownie topped with homemade (by the Pastor!) ice cream and fudge sauce. What’s not to love? Classic comfort!
Booth 49: Vanderburgh County Republicans, Elephant Toes. Light, airy little dollops of deep fried dough covered in the right amount of cinnamon sugar. The cup of icing was wasted on us. We loved them plain!
Booth 51: Forest Hills Wesleyan Youth, chicken and dumplings. Soooo good! The broth was tasty, the dumplings were light and the chicken was amazing. Do yourself a favor and get some before they sell out!
Booth 55: Salem UMC/Boy Scout 335, BBQ parfait. Pork, mashed potatoes and corn in a cup. Meat isn’t overly seasoned or coated with bbq sauce, if you’re looking for comfort food, this is your go-to!
Booth 56: Westside Catholic Schools, St. Agnes, Kuchen. Cinnamon and sugar topped cake was another favorite of us both.
Booth 57: Westside Catholic Schools, Sacred Heart, pronto pup. The gold standard in Lisa’s opinion, and Tyler agreed. Batter to hot dog ratio was on point, fried to golden and crispy perfection. Truly heaven on a stick!
Booth 59: LifeChoice, Piggy Toes. Cocktail weenies, wrapped in bacon. The perfect little appetizer before you hit the midway!
Booth 61: Lamda Chi Alpha, Philly Cheesesteak. Tyler loved everything about it! Very cheesy, well seasoned, bun to filling ratio on point.
Booth 63: Alpha Omega Psi, Stromboli. A can’t go wrong classic!
Booth 64: Phi Delta Theta, fried cookie dough with ice cream. Save this for the end of the night, it’s sooooo rich and chocolatey!
Booth 66: Redeemer Fellowship & Northwoods Church, Dorito Walking Taco. Perfectly seasoned and delicious. A classic festival food!
Booth 67: St. Peter’s UMC, individual apple pie. Crust was flaky and flavorful, but that apple filling was amazing!!
Booth 69: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Frito Haystack. UE’s fraternity made us a delicious take on the classic.
Booth 70: Delta Zeta Lambda, Fried pickle spears. Breading was flavorful, just the right thickness and the spear was pickle perfection. Treat yourself to some of these!
Booth 73: Tau Kappa Epsilon, Stromboli. They are legendary at the Fall Festival, and Tyler wasn’t disappointed at all. Another booth that does one thing, and does it best!
Booth 75: VHS, sampler platter. Tyler loved the deep fried mac & cheese, Lisa loves the fried green beans. Perfect item to share with that special someone, or keep for yourself!
