Bargaining talks for a new EVSC teacher contract is under way.
Lori Young, president of the Evansville Teachers Association, says the goal is to increase starting salaries to around $60 thousand and move to a schedule payment plan.
Young says that would attract more people who wish to become teachers, making it a more sustainable job.
She says right now teacher often work much more than what is required in their contracts.
Negotiations must be completed by November 15.
