A Spencer County judge has sentenced Joseph Petry.
He pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter, and one count of pointing a gun in June to the January 2020 shooting death of Zane Lee.
For the voluntary manslaughter charge, he received 24 years.
For the gun charge, he was sentenced to one year.
It’s to be served consecutively. Petry also has about $10,000 in restitution and fees to pay.
Lee’s mother says of course they were hoping for more, but she is at peace with with the sentence.
She says after the sentencing, she discovered a dozen pink roses had been left on Lee’s memorial.
Henderson says she doesn’t know who has been leaving them, but roses or sunflowers have been left there periodically ever since her son was killed.
