Last year, Henderson’s Atkinson Pool was closed by the COVID pandemic.
This year, staffing problems threatened to do the same thing.
But the news now is good.
The main struggle has been to find enough lifeguards to staff the pool for the summer.
The city raised wages, making starting pay for a lifeguard $10 an hour, in the hopes of garnering some applicants… they also lowered the minimum age to 15.
That’s the minimum age for lifeguards to be trained.
Once all those changes were put into place, applicants soared. Atkinson Pool will open by the end of June.
