Earlier this week, several news sources reported that the Archdiocese of New Orleans urged Catholics not to accept the recently-approved Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine because it was developed with stem cells obtained through abortion.
The United States Council of Bishops issued a statement saying that both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines used such stem cells in their testing processes but not in production;
however the Johnson and Johnson vaccine does use stem cells in production.
The statement says, it’s OK to receive the J & J vaccine but it would be preferable to choose another option if available.
Bishop Joseph Siegel of Evansville reportedly agrees with the statement.
