Teams worked through the snowy night and into the wee hours of this (Thurs)morning, doing the annual point-in-time count of the city’s homeless.
It all began Wednesday night in the gym at the CK Newsome Center that’s used as a shelter on frigid nights.
Teams from Aurora aided by the city’s shelters were out much of the night poking into various nooks and crannies making the count, which is mandated by the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development.
HUD uses the data for future planning of programs to combat homelessness.
In 2020, 488 people were homeless in Evansville, a 2% increase from 2019.
