E.P.D. Assistant Chief of Police Chris Pugh is retiring after over 31 years with the department. According to the E.P.D. Facebook page;
“Pugh has served as Assistant Chief of Police since 2012, the foundation for that appointment was built on 22 years of working the streets–as an officer in Patrol, Narcotics Detective, member of the SWAT Team and, after achieving the rank of Sergeant, Supervisor of Special Operations and Narcotics. Pugh was recipient of a number of commendations and letters of achievement throughout his career. In 2001, then-Detective Pugh received an Award of Honorable Mention from his nomination to the National Association of Police Organizations National Top Cops. In that same year, Pugh was recognized by the Southwest Indiana District of the American Legion as Police Officer of the Year. Those two awards were largely a result of Pugh’s efforts in developing a conscientious plan to combat the rising number of clandestine methamphetamine labs that threatened public safety beginning in the late 90’s. It was a comprehensive strategy that involved layers of private and public outreach and in-depth education that underscored EPD’s motto, “In partnership with the community.”
