Former University of Evansville men’s basketball coach Walter McCarty has reached a settlement with First Federal Savings Bank. The bank will be paid just over $1,100 dollars. Once that payment is made. a restriction will be released from McCarty’s account.
In September, First Federal alleged McCarty owed them $45,000 plus interest, for money borrowed in October of 2018.
In a separate issue, Old National Bank claims McCarty owes them $75,000. McCarty, in turn, has filed a complaint alleging that the bank did not pay him money owed for personal appearances and other duties stemming from a five-year personal services contract he signed in 2018.
McCarty was placed on administrative leave in December 2019, and dismissed a month later. In making those decisions, the university cited an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and violations of the UE’s Title IX policy.
At the time McCarty was placed on leave, his team was 9-4, including an upset of then-number-one ranked Kentucky, the coach’s alma mater. After he was removed, the team did not win another game the remainder of the season.
