In 2016, a little over 53 percent of voters cast ballots in the presidential and other elections.
That included early voting and election day balloting.
So far in 2020, 40 percent of Vanderburgh County registered voters have cast ballots in early voting alone. That included 40,120 voting in person and 14,663 voting by mail with slightly less than a thouand mailed votes still out.
On this election day, 22 polling locations opened, many, if not most, having lines waiting to cast ballots.
County Clerk Carla Hayden says there is considerable interest in this election among voters who are either happy or unhappy with the current direction of the country.
