A Crawford County woman has been sentenced for her part in the 2017 beating death of a Birdseye man.
Sarah Andry of Eckerty was sentenced to 55 years for aiding murder and aggravated battery.
The other defendant in the case, Jason Atkins, was sentenced in November. He will serve a total of 45 years, including 20 on supervised probation.
Authorities say both suspects were charged in the death of Darin Atkins in July 2017. According to the coroner, Atkins died from internal bleeding in his head and multiple skull fractures caused by force from a large blunt object, later determined to be a baseball bat.
A court affidavit obtained by our media partner 14 NEWS said it was “widely known” in Birdseye that the three had been involved in a love triangle. The affidavit says Andry was the long-time girlfriend of Darin Atkins but “went back and forth between him and Jason” over the past three years.
Dubois County Detective Sgt. Tom Kleinhelter says officers received well over 100 tips in the case.
