The journey to Evansville has hit another snag. Due to inclement weather, the P-47 known a s “Tarheel Hal” will now be arriving on Saturday (10/17.) According to a member of the P-47 Foundation, Hal’s arrival is anticipated to be between 2pm-2:30pm. Multiple passes over the city are still planned.
Original story:
On Thursday, rain delayed the flight of Tarheel Hal from landing in Evansville, so the flight was scrubbed.
Tarheel Hal is a P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II fighter plane, one of more than 6,000 such aircraft built by Republic Aviation in Evansville.
The factory was next to Evansville Regional Airport, and after the war it became known as the Whirlpool plant.
This morning, Tarheel Hal’s take-off from Houston was scrubbed because of rain on that end.
The airvcraft was scheduled, then, to depart at about noon Central Time and arrive in Evansville around 4pm.
